Bluestocking Film Series - Films by Women

A New Film Series at St. Lawrence Arts

www.stlawrencearts.org

The St. Lawrence Arts Center is currently accepting submissions from women filmmakers interested in showcasing their work as a part of a new event: The Bluestocking Film Series - Films by Women. The series was conceived by filmmaker Kate Kaminski and is a collaboration between Gitgo Productions and the St. Lawrence. Because women filmmakers are under-represented in the filmmaking industry and largely misrepresented in forms of media worldwide we are thrilled to create a series within Maine that supports women filmmakers and provides them with a state of the art venue to showcase their craft. The USM Women and Gender Studies Program, the Maine Film and Video Association, and the Maine Film Office are co-sponsoring the event.

The inaugural event will take place at the St. Lawrence on October 30th from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

Guidelines for Submission:

  1. Short films of all categories not exceeding 15 min. in length will be considered.
  2. The director of the film must self-identify as a woman and any co-director must also be a woman.
  3. The film must pass the ‘Bechdel Test for Women in Movies
  4. A nominal submissions fee of $5 is requested (checks made out to: St. Lawrence Arts Center) and will go towards promotion of the series.
  5. Submissions will be accepted on DVD either by mail or drop-off to St. Lawrence Arts Center, 76 Congress St., Portland ME 04101 - c/o Whitney McDorr, Theater Manager.
  6. Deadline for submission is Friday, October 7th at 5:00 pm.

For more information on the Bluestocking Film Series please contact Whitney McDorr at whitney.mcdorr@stlawrencearts.org or by telephone at 207-347-3075 or Kate Kaminski at gitgo_productions@yahoo.com.

The St. Lawrence Arts Center features unique, eclectic, arts and cultural activities while preserving a distinctive National Historic Landmark that has served Greater Portland since 2001. The building, originally a church constructed in 1897 in the Romanesque, Queen Anne Style, is home to many performing arts organizations.
